작은 숲과 같은 집

As sunlight filters through the gap between the roof and walls, it casts a play of light and shadow, reminiscent of a forest canopy. This effect transforms the trees within the house into a miniature woodland. The entire tree structure is composed of intricate wooden joinery, showcasing the inherent strength and beauty of engineered timber while paying homage to traditional construction methods.

The three towering trees within this hexagonal dwelling create an interior space that echoes the building's unique footprint. Serving as structural anchors, these trees not only support the roof but also define the interior ambiance. The surrounding walls, while providing insulation during Korea's harsh winters, also contribute to the overall visual experience. This interplay between the trees and walls results in a space that feels both enclosed and open, with carefully placed apertures offering curated views of the exterior.

대지 형상을 따른 이형의 육각형 형상에 대응하여 계획된 세 개의 나무는 자연스럽게 내부 공간을 형성한다. 이 세 개의 나무는 지붕을 지탱하기 위한 최소한의 요구 조건이기도 하다.

구조와는 별개로 집을 감싸는 벽이 요구되었다. 단열을 위한 것이기도 하고, 그리 아름답지 않은 주변 환경을 가리기 위함이기도 하다. 의도적으로 혹은 결과적으로 내부에는 오직 공간과 사람만이 남게 되었다. 시간의 흐름은 나무 구조체와 벽 사이로 흘러들어오는 빛을 통해 감지된다. 숲에서 떨어지는 빛과 같다.

집의 나무는 결구와 맞춤으로 이루어진다. 전통 방식을 재해석했음에도 못을 사용하지 않은 것은 과거 건축 방식을 그대로 따르려는 의도가 아니다. 나무의 결합만으로도 지붕을 지탱할 수 있는, 재료가 지닌 순수한 힘을 보여주기 위함이다. 최초의 집 또한 그 힘에 대한 믿음으로 만들어졌을 것이다.
