Continuing the legacy of architectural masterpieces in the city of Jinju.

Chokseok-ru pavilion, 14C

The project reimagines East Asian timber architecture, specifically the "-ru," a larger-scale pavilion. Inspired by traditional assembly techniques and structural systems, the pavilion features six tree-like columns that pay homage to the six pillars of Chokseok-ru, a historic building in Jinju, Korea. The project aims to redefine the purpose of the "-ru," transforming it into a more public and accessible space. Situated along the Namgang River, a backdrop to significant historical events, the pavilion aspires to become an iconic landmark, particularly during the Floating Lights Festival.

While preserving authentic carpentry methods, the pavilion incorporates modern construction techniques, such as the use of complex plywood members assembled into tree structures with the aid of augmented reality. This innovative approach enhances construction efficiency while maintaining the project's traditional aesthetic. The Pavilion of Floating Lights serves as a testament to the potential for reviving forgotten craftsmanship in East Asia through the integration of contemporary technology.
