JK-AR is an agenda-driven design platform, leveraging Historical and Natural influences to inform a new design paradigm. We create a path where innovation and tradition intertwine, crafting structural forms and spaces that challenge the limits of design and construction.

Our focus lies in reinventing East Asian timber craft by blending cutting-edge techniques with historical analysis. These interdisciplinary studies inform our projects, which transcend mere groundbreaking designs to become deeply rooted in cultural context. In this way, we strive to revive forgotten regional identities by our innovation.

김재경건축연구소는 건축실험실이다. 건축적 선례와 자연에 내재한 형성 원리에서 얻은 영감으로 새로운 디자인적 가능성을 찾는다. 혁신과 전통의 결합으로 설계와 시공에서 새로운 영역을 구축하고 특별한 공간과 형태의 건축을 실현한다.

김재경건축연구소의 작업은 '동아시아 목조 건축의 새로운 탄생'이라는 일관된 주제를 바탕으로 한다. 이는 기술과 역사의 학제간 융합을 통해 우리 스스로 잊어왔던 문화적, 지역적 정체성을 되살리는 건축의 추구에 목표를 두고 있다.

김재경

Jae Kyung Kim is an architect, researcher, and educator, currently serving as an Associate Professor at Hanyang University and the director of JK-AR. His academic journey began with architectural engineering at Hanyang University, followed by a pursuit of architecture and urbanism at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his master's thesis earned him the Imre Halasz Thesis Prize.

J Kyung‘s achievements extend beyond academia, evidenced by his numerous awards on both the global and domestic stage. In 2023, he garnered the Honor Award of the Wood Design & Building Awards from the Canadian Wood Council and ArchDaily's 2023 New Practices. Domestically, his achievements include two Grand Prizes from the Korean Wood Design Awards, the 2019 Koran Institute of Architects’ Special Prize, and the 2022 Good Place Award.

건축가 김재경은 한양대학교 건축학부와 김재경 건축연구소에서 연구와 교육, 실무를 병행하며 ‘기술을 통한 동아시아 목조건축의 창신(創新)’이란 주제로 독창적인 건축 영역을 구축하고 있다. 한양대학교 수학 이후 도미하여 MIT 건축과에서 석사과정 최우수 졸업 논문상을 받았다. 수상 경력으로 2023년 캐나다 목재협회 목조건축상 대상, 2023년 아키데일리 the Best New Practices, 2022년과 2019년 목조건축대전 대상, 2022년 공간문화대상 장관상, 2019년 건축가협회 엄덕문특별상 등이 있다.
